Photo Hunter: Small

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

So here I am, back from a long hiatus after getting drawn deep into facebook and also into a personal and emotional roller coaster.

So the theme for the week is Small and in keeping with diving as my sub theme, I present to you the Nudibranch collections.

Phylum Mollusca
Class Gastropoda
Order Nudibranchia

Nudibranchs belong to sea slugs. They are slow moving bottom dwellers. They have soft bodies and most of them lack an external protective shell. Their secondary gills are exposed outside, as reflected by their name “nudibranch” meaning “nude/naked gills”. Some nudibranchs have numerous body projections (called “cerata”) increasing the overall body surface and enhancing breathing. Nudibranchs carry a pair of horn-like cephalic tentacles or “rhinophores” at the front, that are used primarily as chemosensory organs (sensing chemicals). To protect themselves from predators many developed toxic or bad tasting glands in the skin, and their bright colors warn predators of their horrible taste. Nudibranchs possess fantastic coloration and color patterns. Nudibranchs cannot be taken away or preserved - they loose their shape and colors.

I took my niece and nephew to the Twin Towers, KLCC.

There they have musical fountain only you don’t hear the music. I will tell you why! Whatever it is I always enjoyed seeing the rhythmic movements of these fountains. Because there isn’t any music heard, I tend to place a music to the showers of the fountain.

So, often I don’t get the music right! So, why no music? I being a diver, decided maybe there is a underwater choir singing along, mainly by these school of squirrel fish,

together with a group of these banded pipefish

and alongside these school of beautiful fishes, all to form the KLCC Underwater Philharmonic Orchestra.

There just too many things I could post for a topic of twos’. So where shall I start?

Well, many things around us comes in twos.

First there are my niece and nephew, the two of them sporting the Malaysian flag as a headgear which was handed out during the Pikom fair.

Then there was this two young dancers in Bali who look almost identical.

Then, during one of my dives, when it was so difficult for me to even see a single cuttlefish, there were two of them ushering my entrance into their depths

Then hiding between the cracks of a huge hard coral, there were this magnificent pair of shrimps doing the cha cha!

Then as I just about to end my dive, these two Nemos came dancing.

As I end this post, I shall serve a choice between black coffee or hot cocoa for my dear beloved bloggers! Cheers!
