Thanks so much for the information. After an attack on Wednesday, and then a much more severe one on Friday, I had my gallbladder removed this past Saturday. Still dealing with the "healing pain". I'm also an ileostomate (March 2008), so am curious to see how this will affect healing, diet, etc.

Thanks for dropping by Sandi.

True that if there is a proven alternative treatment that is not invasive which works then that would be the first line treatment.

People over the years have tried many ways to treat gallbladder stones but surgery has till date seem to be the best option available. There are many who carry gallstones in their gallbladder but are asymptomatic but surgery is only offered usually to those with symptoms. This is because despite the stones, the gallbladder is already considered "sick", so therefore it should be removed.

Dr. George -
I have read that "galbladder cleanses" work just as well as surgery. I can hardly find that true. But possibly facing surgery, frightens me. If the "cleanse" worked would'nt that be your treatment vs. putting someone under & possibly risking their life?
Your opinion please.

Surprisingly it wasn't that distended because maybe of the thickened gallbladder wall. Laparoscopically, one can remove a distended gallbladder (if difficult) by aspirating the fluid within the gallbladder first before removal.

Was this a lap chole or an open? If lap, how did you get the gall bladder, which must have been distended, out intact?
