Sometimes we take baby steps, uncertain and needing of help. Sometimes toddling steps—surer, yet still not confident. Sometimes we take a giant step—leaping, bounding forward. Sometimes we take a backward step, when we see we’ve taken a wrong path. Sometimes our steps are joyous, running steps, when we feel we are barely touching the ground. At times we drag our feet in sorrow, grief, loneliness, and uncertainty, when our feet feel leaden. Sometimes we walk alone, sometimes with friends, family, our mate. But all our life is filled with steps—forward, backward, or sideways, full of confidence or faltering. Life is full of steps.

Heavy Steps

I am a flower
Trampled under the weight
Of heavy steps.
I was not meant to be stepped on
But to admire and enjoy.
I was to be protected,
Nurtured and allowed to grow
In beauty for all.
Careless and hurtful steps
Destroy my beauty.
The flower is still there.
Beaten and forlorn.
I am still here.
My beauty will never again
Bloom for anyone.

Blog apocalypse

I was tagged by Bernard a long time ago for this. Sincerely, I really did not know what to write for 2 reasons:

1. I would not be able to write anything before the apocalypse
2. I could only think of thanking my readers for their support.

Then after the recent episode of attack, I almost lost my blog. I felt lost and empty. I was sad. I realised how close blogging has become to me. I suddenly knew what I would write for a impending blog apocalypse.

The idea:
Imagine if an “apocalypse” of the blog world occurs… what would the last message be on your blog? Technically, if blog apocalypse happens, there wouldn’t be anyone to read anything I could have written. So there’s no need to write anything more.

So here it goes, my last write for an impending blog apocalypse:

I would like to thank God for giving so much and yet despite my many faults He continues to care for me and nurture me. I would like to thanks God for allowing me to share his blessings to me with the world.

I would like to thank my family for being there for me during the joys and sadness. To my Ruban and Sherman, I love you so much.

To my blogger friends and readers, I would miss you and thank you for the support. I hope to meet each of you in person one day. I hope all of you have managed to learn from me as much or more from me and my articles and I hope they have somehow touched you in some way or another.

To my beautiful patients, I thank you for being my teachers. There wouldn’t be me without you.

With love,

George

here is how it all started and the instructions

I will not be tagging anybody as this tag by itself is delayed by many weeks if not mistaken.

I got hacked

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Well it was the 20th April, as I rushed home from work to write my blog about an article which I have now forgotten, I was surprised to see my blog empty and I was directed to med97um.net page. Shocked I read it carefully and thought initially that the boss did not renew the site.

Frantically, I emailed the other two, who are related in sorts to the med97um page site. I was worried. Bernard’s blog apocalypse came true. I did not get to write anything and my last post was about love - not bad!

The next day, the boss confirmed that it was hacked! C*L*K*! Why? Anyway thanks to boss, I would soon get a new address. I was so worried that I would lose all my articles. Thanks to boss my articles are also saved.

But, then again, as usual, there was an irritant who strongly felt that I did not pay for the hosting. I hate it when one thinks one knows a lot without actually finding out the real story! What was irritating was the way the blogger responded as though I cannot read and was making baseless comments. But why boil over an insignificant fellow! There are more important things in life.

Thanks to all who patiently waited.

A Date

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I received this in my email yesterday - and I was touched & decided to share with you bloggers!

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman
out to dinner and a movie. She said I love you but I know this other
woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER,
who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.
“What’s wrong, are you well,” she asked? My mother is the type of
woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is
a sign of bad news.

“I thought that it would be pleasure with you,” I responded. “Just the
two of us.”
She thought about it for a moment, and then said, “I would like that
very much.”

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit
nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed
to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on.
She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to
celebrate her last wedding anniversary.
She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel’s.

“I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they
were impressed, “she said, as she got into the car. “They can’t wait
to hear about our meeting”. We went to a restaurant that, although not
elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Large print. Half way
through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there
staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips.

“It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,” she
said.

“Then it’s time that you relax and let me return the favor,” I
responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing
extraordinary, but catching up on recent events of each other’s life.
We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said, “I’ll go out with you
again, but only if you let me invite you.” I agreed.

“How was your dinner date?” asked my wife when I got home. “Very
nice.
Much more so than I could have imagined,” I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It
happened so suddenly that I did not do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant
receipt from the same place mother and I had dined.

An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance. I wasn’t sure
that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates -
one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that
night meant for me. I love you, son.”

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: “I LOVE
YOU!” and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in
life is more important than God and your family. Give them the time
they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till “some other
time.”

Health Services - Where are we?

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

This article was emailed to me and almost immediately I sniggered. The article was published in NSTonline titled: Heart surgery: Solution lies in improving our own services

Well, regarding the article, it was well written and as usual I am afraid our health minister is again wrongly informed. Foreigners are charged in USD in India and the charges are far greater than for their locals obviously. The rates given appear to be rates meant for the locals of India nationality.

But what was more interesting is that the author managed to point out some interesting facts.
