Why blog?

This is a question that frequently crosses my mind. I never dwelt on it as with the passing days, time took to the better of that. However, today was different. I finished my call and tired, unable to produce an article for the blog. I remembered what Shireen used to ask me, “Why blog?” Then, I realised that it is Chinese New Year eve and I haven’t wished one of my closest friend, Bernard yet. Lately, the sms, IM, emails and the blog has evolved to a level that made it so easy to convey a message. But, I felt a loss of that human touch, the voice, the intonation, the rhythm and the depth of a human voice. So, I quickly reached for my handphone and called Bernard but sadly it was unanswered. Later, I find out his battery died from messaging him on IM. My post call hangover continued till the late evening and despite me trying to write an article, I was numb.

I decided to take a break but an hour ago went back onto the net, and started bloghopping. I shockingly came across FH’s blog which revealed a closure of another blogger, Judy or dr ve thru.

So why do one blog? I was introduced to the world of blogging by Yenjai and Bernard. But the actual reason for starting this was to share my stories and pictures with a special someone, my sister and her children who had migrated to Australia. Then, there was also the need to compile my stories for another special person whom I miss ever so dearly,Ruban.

Later, I realised that there was more to offer and I could also use it as an educational medical tool and a tool to voice my opinions. I also realised that it was therapeutic for myself as I had a sense of relief by blogging. Ever since, I have encouraged many to blog but very very few did.

As the months passed by, I made many friends though virtual but still very real. I have learnt that sharing was an important value in blogging. I also learnt that one has to be ready for any form of comments be it a ridicule or a praise. I also realised that in the process of sharing and educating I too am being educated in various ways.

But in the midst of that, we tend to get carried away. Drifted in the comforts of our senses to the virtual world of blogging. We find it so enticing and yet so fulfilling, that there are days we feel a rush to see whats on the blogosphere. We get too attached and engrossed, that we drift away from reality, from our real world duties. There stuck and adherent to a corner of the blogosphere a comfortable and self satisfying safe environment ours to claim with no disturbance from anything or anybody. “It is mine, my precious” said Gollum in the Lord of the Rings. Are we all becoming Gollums?

Then again, the best things in life are those taken in moderation. This I believe. Too much or too little of anything is never satisfying. The need to learn to be contended with what we want is an important virtue but difficult. Then again, isn’t that part of the beauty of life? Nothing worth its salt is easy. Everything in life has a price, the choice is solely ours!

well sometimes we fail to appreciate that we are lucky, but I must agree one must do to make oneself happy first. Then again like what Khalil Gibran says, to realise happiness one has to first realise and appreciate sorrow.

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises
was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being,
the more joy you can contain………..

You do good doc, carry on your good work and let the world know what and how a life of a medic is….which is not as boring as what they think.

Ha ha hah Azrin, actually true life as a doctor is not as boring as what many would think. Then again, one must have the interest otherwise one would tire down. Thanks Azrin.
