Heard of him - a Canadian stand up comedian who came to Singapore once! Well, I was introduced to him by my nieces and here I put up a segment by him for your viewing pleasure. If you haven’t heard him then check both out!

A shocking wake-up

Friday, November 24th, 2006

I got up today just on time to say thanks to my Auntie as my Uncle left earlier in the morning to go for work. Just what would I do without them! Thanks Uncle Babu, Auntie Mercy, Lisa & Asha.

So what was so shocking —

The first - Razak gets a bail - what? A one million ringgit bail!! I wonder if it was another weasel with much less contacts will he be allowed bail! Then again what is shocking in Malaysia Boleh! No pride in justice one meh! Or has politics infiltrated it also! Or like my comment in “during lunch gossips” article hold some truth!

Second - was watching Oprah with my 2 nieces and their hamster “White Chick”, as they showed this guy with 2 kids after many years of marriage decided to have a complete sex change to a female and his wife is still strong beside him(her)!? Then they showed another guy who badly wants his now-after-marriage-blame-it-on-pregnancy-obese wife to lose weight and they(Oprah and her lady psychiatrist or psychologist) turned around after telling her that she was lying to herself and in denial that she should have the courage and the strength to work out a divorce!!!??Duh!

Third - the Ryan Star album — it was weird but i think he should sing rock rather than ballads but it is just my 2 cent opinion. Sorry Asha!

Fourth - we had a look at my blog and yipes…… where is my nemo header???? Bernard help? I wonder how many of you readers do not see a Nemo header? please tell so I can hopefully figure out something with the aid of my friends

Fifth - My cab driver was a jovial and conversed well and so we got talking about the traffic and transportation differrances between both the countries and I was impressed with the level of discussion. I can’t get over the airport and the Singapore Airlines flying back to Malaysia in a Boeing 777. Talk about class and comfort — Singapore really takes pride in treating customers well and at the same time make them pay equally as much for the services. But yet again, their civil service managed to get a 2.7 months bonus which makes me envious and less appreciative of an unappreciative government!!

Sixth — Upon reaching KLIA, I booked a cab back. To my surprise, there is some effort though not much in an attempt to celebrate Visit Malaysia 2007. The taxis, budget, limos and vans were all painted with a common emblem of the Visit Malaysia 2007 but …… non were Proton makes. The limos were Mercedes, the budget cars were mainly Daewoo and the vans I am not sure. I asked the taxi driver as to why none were of Proton and he replied “Senang saja, politik.” Nothing else transpired after that. So much of intelligent talk, as any why is there a need to talk if politics is the main issue!

Trip to Vivo city with 2 lovely ladies!

Friday, November 24th, 2006

All the hype about Vivo city made me decide I had to take a look at it myself. After making plans, we decide to meet at Outram Park MRT station and then go together to Harbour Front where Vivo City is.

1

From the word “vivacity” which means liveliness; animation; sprightliness, this gigantic megastore was their response to our MidValley City. I however enjoyed myself as I was with these 2 lovely young vivacious ladies in Vivo City. We helped ourselves to Ben & Jerries Ice Cream Parlour which was just …… particulièrement plaisant

We then enjoyed the little “sea” that they had which made Sentosa Island suddenly so near. This little “sea” were money making as cruise ships were docking and that made me wonder did not we have more sea to offer. Well, what can I say!

After lunch at Sausage King or something like that, we parted ways and off I went adventuring the City on my own. I headed for Sim Lin Plaza, our version of Low Yatt Plaza but older, and Grand Central Plaza to look for a PDA and an underwater strobe for my camera. The ultimate difference was these guys actually one guy and one lady took the effort to explain to me in depth regarding the products I saw. Something I hardly get here as most of the retailers hardly know what they sell in Malaysia. “Boleh jalan, sudahlah! Buat apa mau cakap banyak-banyak!”
The lady in Scubapro was excellent as she demonstrated the strobes and its handles and gadgets. She gave me a short tutorial on strobes and then told me to exercise my customer rights to go and review other models either at other shops and on internet forums before I made up my mind. If it was reverse psychology she lost as I actually took her word and decided to exercise my customer rigths! Duh! Then it was this other guy who without me asking came to the counter and started demonstrating the PDAs he had, the pros and cons and why and which I should not buy! Duh! Well I bought one as both my obsolete PDA and my dysfunctional phone were running reaching their life end. Isn’t shopping in S’pore fun?

Later that night, I met up with my closest Uncle and Auntie for a dinner in Thekka, my dads favourite landmark. This was after giving me an excellent dinner the night before in one Delhi restaurant with the 2 other ladies who happened to be their daughters and my nieces!

Singapore

Friday, November 24th, 2006

We decided to walk the all famous Orchard road. It was magnificent as it was all lighted up with beautiful decors and the the Christmas mood was sinking deep within. There were many professional photographers along the streets taking photos of the decor and many more. A city indeed and even KL was far to compare but with a little bit more work it could reach as such.

The excellent public transportation made it difficult to see a traffic halt KL style in Singapore. This with the cost of having a car made it an excellent reason for not driving. The cabs however rarely stops as most are called cabs.We had to wait for a cab for almost 30 minutes as the phone lines were busy (maybe they were trying to make us wait until after 12mn for the surcharge) and the cabs refused to stop until one of us used her colourful magic wand she bought for her kid which stopped 2 taxis!!

APGCC and NUS

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Well this was the first Asia Pacific Gastric Cancer Conference and true to its nature the leaders of gastric cancers were there to make it a success. The conference was over 2 days and was followed by a hands-on workshop.

NUS (National University of Singapore) was as majestic as usual still emanating its never fading glory. The university has managed to grow and modernize while keeping its heritage. Unlike our beloved University Malaya, I found myself in the midst of great and there on NUS walls was the name of our UM medical faculty founding father, Tan Sri Professor T J Danaraj. I felt so upset as my own university, UM failed to place his name anywhere in the faculty and the graduates from UM most of them do not know the UM greats. Another name came to mind Prof Bosco, another great in the field of bood related cancers in UM have no name in UM but has a hall in IMU named after him. Such is the government and institution who fail to recognise the deeds of their leaders and greats - who will lose - the government, the institution and the future students.

The conference touched on the basics and went deep into genetics which continued to treatment options and advances. The great surgeon from Japan Mr T.Sano demonstrated his skills and another great surgeon from Korea demonstrated his laparoscopic technique in gastric cancer resection which had most of us including Mr Sano at the height of tachycardia. These surgeon from Korea claims to do at least 9 gastric cancer resections a week and Korea has the highest number of gastric cancer.

The workshop I attended was with Mr T Sano, where we were happily dissecting cadavers imported from Australia. This was in attempt to get accustomed to the D2 gastrectomy, the Japanese art which claimed excellent survival benefits.

I am back

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Hi everybody.

I am back. It was an superb trip. I have a lot of things to write but ….. I will write everything!

We reached Singapore via Malaysian Airlines and the first thing that struck me was despite having such a big international airport, we fail to make it look interesting and lively. Compared to Changi Airport, ours was bare and boring. Changi airport had pictures and flowers and good lighting and the shops were more attractive and people were friendly. Everything from the flooring to the ceiling was interesting and attractive. Wow! talk about a developed country! That made me reflect that it is not just barely the structures that make a country developed but also the people especially the attitude and the government which has to be progressive and developed.

We have the structures but we forgot about the cost to maintain and upkeep to current settings and therfore slowly if not already everything will look many years older.

The Christmas decorations were already up and the thus everybody was in a holiday mood. This encouraged people to buy things and therfore making the place even more cheerful. And mind you this is just about the airport.
