After the holiday!!?

Goodness Monday started with a bang! To start, it was extremely excruciating to get up after having such a wonderful week - you know how it is! Thank God the first two cases in operating theatre was not mine so I took the luxury of a slow drive to work! For once in my life when I decide to do so, something will go wrong! My phone suddenly rings and with my excellent intuition i went “Oh no!” Sometimes, you simply just know!

“Mr George, the first two cases have been cancelled and your patient is being wheeled in!”

What!?? What are the chances of this happening two major cases being cancelled for the same absurd reason — low blood counts! Duh!

I step on my pedals and it was like driving F1 on the LDP highway and there I was in OT getting ready for surgery. The case was of a lady with a 8cm by 10cm anterior abdominal hernia over the left side after having had some gynae surgery. I did the case laparoscopically and though my nurses looked alert there was this synaptic dysfunction between their cerebrum and their actions. Actually, that is quite common and I have somehow mastered the art of criticism and humour to get what I want and relay what I feel!! The case went well and I managed to discharge her today.

This was followed by another anterior abdomen hernia in another lady who had surgery for another gynae surgery. Sound repetitious - ya! it is and has been for me since yesterday!
This I did as an open proedure as she could not afford the mesh that would be used for the repair. This went well and she should be going home tomorrow.

Somehow, I knew the day wasn’t over and true enough we went on to do another case of recurrent paraumblical hernia (another anterior abdominal wall hernia), which was diagnosed and booked for surgery by another senior colleague of mine who have left the hospital. Shockingly, this was what we found…. want to guess?

What a day!! Life is full of surprises and fun! The civil service is so exciting and fulfilling but sadly, the government fail to satisfy us or even care for us!
